Assign Themes to Weekdays to Fill Free Time

There aren’t enough hours in a weekday to do all the things I want and need to do when I spend eight of those hours working (10 if you factor in my commute and lunch break). So I’m always looking for ways to be productive with limited time.

Something new I’m trying is assigning themes to each weekday to help me decide what to do with free time, if it arises. This helps because, whenever I have free time, I waste a lot of it just trying to decide which want or need to tackle, since I don’t have time to do them all. Then I get overwhelmed with options, can’t decide and end up streaming TV instead.

So I took the first letter of each day of the week and matched it to the first letter of most of my wants and needs, so when I actually have free time on that day, I won’t waste it trying to pick an activity. This what I came up with:

-Meditation Monday

-Take pictures Tuesday

-Write Wednesday

-Pilates Thursday (This one doesn’t match, but it’s the only oddball, so I’m going with it.)

-Free-weights Friday

-Sing or swim Saturday (Because I have more wants and needs than there are days of the week.)

-Sunday Runday

And that pretty much covers it.

Now this isn’t meant to be strictly followed but a fast way to stop decision fatigue. If a rare bird (or any bird) lands on my fence and poses long enough for me to grab my camera, I’m not going to sigh and say, “To bad it’s not ‘Take Pictures Tuesday.’” But if I have some free on a Tuesday, it’ll be easy and fast to decide to pick up my camera if it is Take Pictures Tuesday.

What about you, Dear Readers? How do you decide what to do with slivers of free time?
